It has taken me roughly 424,684,800 seconds to get to this point, give or take 15,000 seconds. So far, I have managed to go to school, start a family, push my career forward, and realize it was time for a change. So here we are and here we go! I am starting this blog to not only give my opinions but also document my journey through finance. I am dead center in the process of starting my own Investment Advisory firm and I plan to not only show the ins and outs of that undertaking but also show the lessons I learn along the way. I plan on not holding back mainly because I hope to look back later over a beer to see where I have come and where I am headed at that moment. What a better way to jump in and document my growth. Will my thoughts make sense? I hope.

I have found that when you have children things look and act extremely different. Day to day items is taken for granted in your younger years and when it is time for a change no matter the size and no matter what has been done to get to the current status quo, it is worth looking at. Engineering was something I knew I wanted to do from an early stage in life. In 2005 as I sat there watching the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, I remember thinking what a rough situation these people are in not only in New Orleans but all down the coast and even in my home state. What could I do with my life to help that situation? I haven’t been a big fan of non-profits for personal reasons, but I am a fan of science and how things work. My dad spent three months in MS during the cleanup hauling power poles to the various utility companies to restore power as quick as possible. During his stint there he came across some contract workers there from Washington state and they were being contracted by the Army Corps of Engineers. These guys had it going, regular pay, emergency pay, peridium, and overtime pay. All to come access the area and report what could be done. Yes, they were getting paid a killing, but also, they were there to genially help the situation. It’s funny that simultaneously I and my dad had the same thought for my future. I was going to become a civil engineer.

Fast forward to 2014, I am in my mid-twenties and in love. I am also finally about to graduate with a BS in civil engineering. I marry my wife, walk across the graduation stage, and land a job straight out of school making mid-sixties. Not bad for a brand-new married couple coming out of school. Engineering is great and I wouldn’t change any of the experiences it has afforded me during my time in the field, but I also know that if the heart isn’t happy neither is the mind. It would get to a point where it ate at me daily and it is simply impossible to be unhappy at work

and happy at home. It is human nature to bring things home or be absent of the mind while being present of the body when things just aren’t right in your work life.

The day I turned 18 I opened my first brokerage account. I had saved up one hundred dollars and had the plan to turn that bill into my first million. One hundred will buy about one blue chip stock if you’re lucky, but it will buy you A LOT of penny stocks. Until it won’t. It didn’t take me long to blow through that bank roll and had to redeposit funds to try it all again. My second, third, and honestly seventeenth time of failing and retrying taught me a lot. I didn’t just learn what not to do with investments but also what my limitations were. I needed to fail to learn and move forward. I would be willing to bet that if you’re reading this blog that means you have probably done something like me. But the good news is I found something, and you will to. Maybe you decide to trade like I do but also if it’s some other strategy or product that’s ok too! As long as you find something. My hope is that as time goes on I will have more helpful links and tools on 364investing.com to help you build something great.

Make sure to come back as I plan to release blog posts every two weeks! See you soon.
