We spend time in a journey trying to reach the end. The summit. I think that part of what makes investing so great is that you can have so many smaller wins along the way to reaching that big one. I spoke about the rule of 72 in a previous post and how it can give you a best guess timeline on reaching success. You can look at that as a big win. You doubled up, but during that time there are a lot of small wins. I must force myself sometimes to take a step back and know that this isn’t a short sprint. This is indeed a marathon and just like in everyday life, it is so important to look at what is going on around you. I have this blog to write about my life investing but it is so much more than that. It’s my thoughts and experiences to get the win.

So many things happen in a 24-hour period. It’s funny to me that the market is only open for 6.5 of that. It doesn’t even reach a third of your time that you have given to you on any given day. Sure, we spend so much more time around those trading hours building, testing, and documenting, but overall, the trading money-making high-flying zig zagging hours are very short. Think about the how long 6.5 hours is to a small child. That’s an eternity if your day is wrapped around snack and nap time. Why does it have to be so short for the ones of us who are grown? Why does it have to fly by and not be enjoyed. I, as a person who struggles with this, admire people who can slow down life in such a simple stupid way. Those people smile, those people enjoy the time they have and the time they have with others. I want to be that person and not overthink my actions as much as I do! The positive is, I know it is possible. I can’t tell you how much I overthought trading in the beginning. How I thought if it seems simple it must not work, it must be wrong because how do these major firms survive if they make a few trades and go home? Well, it is possible and if you are like me, I hope that you start to do as I have and see that trading and life doesn’t have to be so complicated.
“You can’t see the forest for all the trees.”
I never looked at that quote with as much personal reflection as I do now. I am trying to take the same approach to all the aspects of my life these days and I can tell you that it has helped! It has paid off which is one of those small wins on the way to that major score. I always knew I wanted kids and that I wanted to be present for them. I also knew I wanted to be successful with money and be able to provide for them. What I have since found is that it is extremely important to prioritize my time with my children helps me prioritize my time with my business. It gave me focus. It gave me goals. It gave me happiness and understanding. I got closer to God during the creation of my business. I leaned on him more than ever before and while no I am not a religious blog, and no I am not trying to push anything. I will say that I encourage you to be open minded about things you know you need help with. You can make a million algorithms and strategies, but if you don’t have humility and clarity you’ll fail in the end. You will fail because you can’t step back far enough to see a change that needs to be made. You must adapt.
I guess the point I am trying to get across is that even in a society we live in where everything is so instant, it is nice to still have some things that aren’t. It is nice to know that some things come with time and celebrating those things along the way really help to find purpose and reason in this world. Don’t let the forest become hidden from all the small individual trees you encounter. Life is extremely short and needs to be enjoyed when it presents itself in form.
